A summary of the work of the governing body during 2022 – 2023
Governance arrangements:
The work of the governing body was again wide ranging and in depth across the academic year as we continue our detailed work through our committee structure. These include: Resources, Teaching and Learning, Pupil Support, SIAMS and admissions. We also continue to overview our own work as a governing body through our strategy group.
We helped compile and then monitored the School Development Plan from September 2022 which continues to be an ambitious plan. We reviewed, updated and approved a range of policies all relating to the effective running of the school and ensuring the best possible outcomes to children’s education. We supported the school in a number of practical ways and paid particular attention to the well-being of the staff as well as that of the children.
Working together with the school’s leadership team we set and monitored the budget. Governors have been active in considering in detail the implications of the school’s ever tighter budgetary situation and the implications this has on human resources in particular.
We further developed links between the school and local churches (especially Oakwood church) through ensuring the school is represented in church newsletters and reporting to Oakwood church PCC.
We continued to evaluate and improve our effectiveness as a governing body. We supported new governors through individual induction meetings and all governors with an individual annual review meeting. This ensures that we are getting the best out of each governor and making the best use of their skills.
The past year has been a key one for us in considering the school's long term future. After wide consultation with all stakeholders, the governors resolved to join the Leeds Diocesan Learning Trust in the coming year which sets the direction for exciting new horizons for the school as a whole.
Plans for the future:
As we go into the new school year, there is much for us to embed in our curriculum development work and in ensuring that the school’s inclusive approach is demonstrated in achievement for all children. We aim to keep wellbeing at the top of our agenda. We recognise that our journey into an academy trust will present many new opportunities and that the process of change will require the time and energy of the staff team to ensure a smooth transition.
Building on the refurbishment to the school library and school kitchen we look forward to further innovation with the installation of solar panels as we improve even further the efficiency of our school building.
